Prime Video Grows Nordic Slate With Mystery Crime Series ‘Blind Spot,’ Dystopian Show ‘VAKA’ From ‘The Bridge’ Director (EXCLUSIVE)

Prime Video is diving into genre in the Nordics with a new slate of shows, including the Swedish mystery crime series “Blind Spot” starring Ida Engvoll (“Love & Anarchy”) and Pål Sverre Hagen (“Furia”), and Henrik Georgsson (“The Bridge“)’s dystopian thriller “VAKA,” starring Emmy-award nominated Jonas Karlsson and Aliette Opheim.

Based on Anne Holt’s best-selling novel “1222” which revolves around the character of Hanne Wilhelmsen, a sharp and dark-minded police officer. The series, penned by celebrated author Sara Heldt (“Sandhamn Murders”) together with Erik Skjoldberg (“Occupied”), follows Hanne who finds herself sheltered in an isolated mountain hotel after a train crash and starts investigating on mysterious murders even though she’s been temporarily suspended from the police.

“Blind Spot” is co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Nordic Drama Queens, in association with Fifth Season which represents the show outside of the Nordic region. Skjoldberg is directing all four episodes of the series. Nordic Drama Queen’s Sandra Harms is producing with executive producers Line Winther Skyum Funch and Josefine Tengblad. The series is currently in production and premieres exclusively on Prime Video Nordics in early 2025.

“VAKA,” starring Aliette Opheim (“The Congregation”) and Jonas Karlsson (“The Final Race”), follows the spread of a deadly insomnia epidemic in Stockholm. The series follows a disgraced minister who must balance addressing the crisis and caring for his son, while an ambulance nurse goes to great lengths to save her lover. The series was created by Brynja Bjork, who also serves as head writer with additional episodes penned by Pauline Wolff.

The series is co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Unlimited Stories, Sagafilm ehf, and Skybound Entertainment, with financial support from the Icelandic Rebate Incentive. Skybound Entertainment holds the rights outside of the Nordics. “VAKA” will start shooting later this month and will premiere on Prime Video Nordics.

Prime Video also unveiled a raft of non-scripted shows, including “Roast on the Coast” starring Linda P, the documentary “Svennis” about the football legend Sven-Göran Eriksson’s life and career.

The new titles were presented at the showcase Prime Video Presents, where the streamer also shared exclusive sneak peeks of upcoming series “STHLM Blackout,” “Jana – Marked for Life” and season 2 of “Bingo & Julia.” Prime Video also presented trailers and first look images on its upcoming Nordic titles “Bullshit,” “Solo” and new seasons of “Furia” and “Those Who Kill.”
