‘Mean Girls’ Cuts ‘Fire Crotch’ Joke From Digital Release After Lindsay Lohan Was ‘Hurt and Disappointed’

A joke referencing the term “fire crotch” has been removed from the digital version of 2024’s “Mean Girls” after Lindsay Lohan publicly took issue with it.

“Fire crotch” was infamously associated with Lohan after socialite Brandon Davis made crude comments about the actor’s body in a 2006 paparazzi video that also featured Paris Hilton.

Lohan, who played Cady Heron in the 2004 original “Mean Girls,” made a cameo in this year’s movie musical rendition. After the film’s release, her representative Leslie Sloane told The Messenger, “Lindsay was very hurt and disappointed by the reference in the film.”

In the new “Mean Girls,” Megan Thee Stallion (playing herself) shows support for Cady (now played by Angourie Rice) by saying, “We are going back red. Y2K fire crotch is back!” An updated version of the film, viewed by Variety via Amazon Prime Video, cuts directly to Megan Thee Stallion laughing after she says, “We are going back red.”

Paramount has not responded to Variety‘s request for comment.

Lohan interpreted the “fire crotch” joke as a distasteful reference to the derogatory nickname that haunted her in the mid-aughts. In the expletive-filled video, captured by TMZ, Davis spouts off about Lohan while Hilton laughs in the background. At the time, Hilton’s rep attempted to distance her from the tabloid scandal.

Lohan returned to “Mean Girls” in a surprise cameo as the moderator of the Mathletes Championship, which drew thunderous applause at the film’s New York premiere. Variety exclusively reported that Lohan was paid about $500,000 for a half day of work on the movie. She flew in from Dubai to walk the red carpet at the Jan. 8 premiere.
